If there are particles in the sample, the incident laser light gets scattered in all directions. The scattered light is detected at certain angle overtime and the signal is used to determine the different coefficient and the particle size by the Stokes-Einstein equation. At Prevest Research Institute, we have a Particle Analyzer and Zeta Potential Model: Litesizer-500 (Anton Paar) with the software: Kalliope, which can measure parameters such as: Particle size (DLS), Zeta Potential (ELS), Transmittance, Molecular Mass, and Refractive Index.

Particle size and stability are important parameters for particle analysis as they have great impact on properties such as reactivity, dissolution rate, sedimentation, creaming or viscosity. Besides this, Litesizer-500 offers measurement modes for determining the Molecular Mass, the transmittance and the refractive index. This Instrument is widely used in diverse fields such as Pharma and Life sciences, Chemicals, food and beverage, electronics, environment pulp and paper and medical devices.

We are using the instrument regularly for checking the Particle size & stability in our formulations i.e., oral health care products and gels during the process of their formulation, development and manufacturing. Before batch manufacturing, all raw materials are checked for their particle size. The same parameters are checked for the finished products also for the conformity, stability, etc.

The methods of dynamic and electrophoretic light scattering are the most common measurement techniques for size and stability analysis of particles in the nanometer range.
